After Jack took a sampling of his war illustrations to Worthen Paxton, the art director of LIFE Magazine, he was commissioned to illustrate numerous wartime articles in Life Magazine between 1940 and 1943. Following are reproductions of those illustrations I have located to date.

Jack was paid $250 for this illustration; it is the first work he did for Life,
and possibly his first published magazine commission.
It is the earliest published example of his work in my collection.
